Custom Timber Frame Solution for Fragile Flat Rack Cargo
Jan 18, 2026
We engineered a custom timber decking solution to transport fragile fiberglass hardtops alongside heavy cargo, ensuring zero damage during rough sea transit.
The Challenge
We were tasked with shipping a 12m flat rack containing varied cargo. The challenge was that the large-volume fiberglass hardtops were fragile and could not have any other cargo stacked on top of them, yet we needed to maximise the container space.
The Solution
Our team engineered a robust timber frame structure. We packed the heavy, standard cargo on the deck and built a custom raised timber level above it. This allowed the fragile hardtops to travel on top, perfectly leveled and protected from crushing weight.
Weather Protection
As a standard for all our flat rack shipments, the entire unit was heat-shrink wrapped to protect against salt water, wind, and rain.
Client Feedback
The customer reported that the vessel endured severe conditions, including sustained rolling of 30 degrees.
"I was worried about the 12m flat rack with hardtops... So when I got the chance I checked the flat rack whilst still on board. It was good as new, the shrink was perfect and the lashings straps all taut. Good job!"
